THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Grand Hotel Parker's
Grand Hotel Parker's has stood in Naples's Chiaia district since 1870, old enough to have hosted Robert Louis Stevenson, Virginia Woolf and Oscar Wilde, and the view from its upper floors runs from Posillipo to Vesuvius across the whole gulf. That history is the thing rival hotels along this coast cannot buy: this is Naples's oldest hotel, not a recent arrival dressed up in period furniture. Sixty-seven rooms across six floors keep the scale intimate, and the George Restaurant, holder of two Michelin stars, means dinner does not require leaving the building; the Bidder Terrace covers cocktails and all-day dining with the same gulf view. Rooms and suites size upward from a 377-square-foot Deluxe with sea view to an 861-square-foot Executive Suite, all with private bathrooms, safes and air conditioning, useful for anyone planning to stay more than a couple of nights. There is a spa, a gym, a garden and a library, plus a business center and conference hall for the guest mixing meetings with the Gulf of Naples. Families are accommodated, with children a year old and younger staying free in the room, and pets can come along for an 80 EUR stay fee, though anyone hunting bare modern minimalism should look elsewhere; the plush fabrics, chandeliers and marble here belong to a different era. Parking is available but charged separately, at 47 EUR a day, and check-in runs from 3pm. As a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, it draws a crowd used to being looked after without being told. What lingers after checkout is not the amenity list but the sense of having slept somewhere Wilde once did, with Vesuvius still outside the window. Naples's oldest hotel, open since 1870 in Chiaia, still houses the two-Michelin-starred George Restaurant and a gulf view running from Posillipo to Vesuvius. Sixty-seven rooms keep it intimate rather than grand. Right for guests who want history with their comfort, not for anyone chasing minimalist design.

Grand Hotel Parker's has welcomed travelers since 1870, making it Naples' oldest hotel. Its guest book reads like a literary who's who, having hosted Robert Louis Stevenson, Virginia Woolf and Oscar Wilde. Period furniture, sculptures and crystal chandeliers throughout the Chiaia district property still evoke that nineteenth-century sense of occasion.
