THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Otemachi
On the seventh floor, a private library sits above the trading floors of Otemachi, a rare quiet room inside Tokyo's financial core that few five-star addresses in this district can offer. Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Otemachi holds just 190 rooms across seven floors, a scale that keeps it closer to a private club than a convention hotel, a kilometre from Tokyo Imperial Palace and Yasukuni Shrine and close enough to Otemachi's towers for a morning meeting on foot. Rooms run large by Tokyo standards, from 527 to 872 square feet, with bathrobes, deep soaking tubs and indoor fireplaces in some categories, and the Imperial Suite and Premier Suite give returning guests and longer stays real room to spread out. The indoor pool operates until 9:30pm, the spa runs a sauna, steam room and massage service by reservation, and the gym and fitness facilities sit alongside a genuine business set-up: three meeting rooms and event facilities for anyone folding work into the trip. Staff speak English, Korean and Chinese, and babysitting and a playroom are on hand for those travelling with children, though under-12s are kept out of the fitness room and under-16s need adult supervision at the pool and spa. This suits a woman travelling for work who wants her evenings covered without leaving the building, and a couple who'd rather walk to the Imperial Palace moat than take a taxi to see it. It suits less the traveller chasing Shibuya's noise or a bargain rate, given the extra-bed and parking charges layered on top. Checkout is at noon, check-in from three, and after that, the library is still there when the meetings end. A 190-room Four Seasons on the edge of Tokyo's financial district, a kilometre from the Imperial Palace, with a rare seventh-floor library, an indoor pool open to 9:30pm and suites built for long stays rather than quick visits.
