THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
The Capitol Hotel Tokyu
Step off the escalator at Tameike-Sanno station and you are inside The Capitol Hotel Tokyu without crossing a street, connected directly to the subway in the heart of Akasaka, where the National Diet Building sits on one side and Hie Shrine's quiet grounds on the other. Reopened in 2010 after a four-year closure, the 29-floor hotel holds 251 rooms, including 13 suites, and all but four of those suites sit on the 18th floor or higher, so most guests wake up above the rooftops rather than level with them, looking out toward the government district and the wider skyline. Three restaurants, a lounge and a bar mean a full evening is possible without leaving the building, though Ginza and Roppongi are just fifteen subway minutes away and the Imperial Palace a ten-minute ride. There is a fitness center, sauna, steam room, and both indoor and outdoor pools, plus massage and spa treatments that need booking ahead of arrival. This suits someone who wants a base with direct underground access and rooms set apart from street noise, not a family planning to spend the trip at the pool together, since guests under eighteen are barred from the pool, the fitness facility and the spa. Forbes Travel Guide has given the hotel its five-star rating for three consecutive years, and it holds the Sakura Quality ESG Practice certification. Among Tokyu Hotels' properties, this is the one the company calls its flagship, and the fact that nearly every room sits on the 18th floor or higher, standard rather than exceptional, is a clear reason why. The Capitol Hotel Tokyu sits directly over Tameike-Sanno station in Akasaka, its 251 rooms starting on the 18th floor as the rule, not the exception. It suits travelers who want quiet elevation over street level, not families expecting pool time together, since under-18s are barred from it.

Listed among the hotel's dining and drink venues, The Capitol Bar gives guests a dedicated cocktail setting distinct from the hotel's restaurants and Origami lounge. It sits within the same Akasaka tower connected directly to Tameike-Sanno Station, making it an easy evening stop for guests staying at the property.
