THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Central Hotel Boutique
On Calle Victoria in Chihuahua's Zona Centro, a colonial adobe estate called Casa Trías has stood since 1843, its walls, steel door supports, and window shapes originally built to guard against Apache raids under General Angel Trías, the property's first owner and a repeat governor of Chihuahua. That building is now Central Hotel Boutique, ten rooms each named for a poet, an easy walk from the Cathedral of Chihuahua and Plaza de Armas. Even among Chihuahua's other adobe houses, this one stands apart, having passed through Terrazas family ownership, a stint as a fabric store, and a 1997 purchase by a descendant of the same family before it opened as a hotel. Guests take a cold drink from the honesty bar on the cathedral-view terrace, or a cocktail in La Noria, a jacuzzi built into the shape of an old water well. El Poeta, the in-house restaurant, works national ingredients, fresh produce, and local cheeses shaped by the flavors of the Sierra Tarahumara, while El Alma bar pours drinks influenced by regional distillates most evenings with local musicians playing. This suits couples and solo travelers pulled toward a small, adults-only address with genuine history behind it: guests under eighteen are not admitted, so it is not a family stop. Airport transfers can be arranged for a surcharge with advance notice, breakfast runs USD 15 to 20 extra, and the 24-hour desk handles laundry, dry cleaning, and tours. What stays with you afterward is not the amenity list. It is a jacuzzi shaped like a well, inside a house whose windows were once built to keep out raiders, in the center of Chihuahua. Central Hotel Boutique occupies Casa Trías, an 1843 adobe estate in Chihuahua's Zona Centro whose windows were built to fend off Apache raids. Ten poet-named rooms sit around a cathedral-view terrace and a well-shaped jacuzzi. Adults-only, not built for families.
