THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Las Ventanas al Paraiso, A Rosewood Resort
Eleven kilometers outside San Jose del Cabo, the desert runs straight down into the Sea of Cortez, and Las Ventanas al Paraiso sits right at that seam. Rosewood built it in 1997 and never let it sprawl: 71 rooms, two floors, low enough that you notice the water before you notice the building. The oddest detail is the indoor fireplace tucked into rooms that also have bathtubs and minibars, a strange comfort for a desert resort, but it works on the cooler nights when the wind comes off the Pacific side. The bigger suites and residences go further, with dining areas and kitchens for people staying long enough to want to cook their own breakfast for once. Six restaurants and bars carry the days, including a dedicated tequila and ceviche bar that most nearby resorts simply don't have. The spa runs a sauna, steam room, solarium and massage rooms, and the top villas add a private rooftop Jacuzzi. For people who want to move, there's a diving club, snorkelling, a golf course, tennis court and even a mini golf area, plus a quieter picnic spot and library away from the pool, and fishing or hiking trips arranged on request. Pets travel for a fee, transfers run both ways, and the staff work comfortably in English and Spanish. This suits a couple or a small group after a resort quiet enough to hear the ocean at night, not a family chasing waterslides, and not anyone expecting nightlife beyond the on-site club. The fireplace in a Baja suite is the kind of detail that outlasts the tan. A low-rise, 71-room Rosewood resort on the Sea of Cortez with indoor fireplaces, a tequila and ceviche bar, and a diving club. Built for quiet couples, not families or night owls.

Among the wellness offerings the resort highlights on its own site, the Resort Pools include a main infinity pool positioned to frame the Sea of Cortez. Guests can move between fitness facilities and pool areas as part of the property's wellness activities and services, making the pool deck a gathering point between spa treatments and dining.
