THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
La Casa Que Canta
Five floors of adobe brick and palapa roofs rise above La Ropa Beach in Zihuatanejo, and from the terrace of any of La Casa Que Canta's twenty-five suites the whole bay opens out, framed by arches that have stood since the hotel was built in 1992. This is a Small Luxury Hotels of the World property that earned its second consecutive Michelin Guide Key, though it wears that recognition quietly. What sets it apart from other boutique hotels along this coast is the spa: the only Clarins spa in Mexico, open daily from ten to six, and no rival property in the region can offer the same treatments. Guests move between two pools, a freshwater one and a saltwater one set among natural rock formations, or head down to the beach for snorkeling, sailing and surfing. Dinner runs à la carte through the evening at Mar y Cielo, where the seafood is pulled from Zihuatanejo's waters that same morning and served alongside traditional Mexican dishes with a Mediterranean lean. Every suite is decorated individually, hand-painted furniture and folk art rather than matching sets, so no two nights here look quite the same. Couples looking for quiet and adults-only certainty will find it easily; children under sixteen are not permitted, and neither are pets. Families, large groups and anyone chasing a lively pool scene or a late-night bar should look elsewhere. The airport is twenty minutes away, the fishing village of Zihuatanejo itself five, close enough to wander into town without ever feeling like the hotel wanted you to leave. It once served as a Hollywood film set, though it never needed the film to be worth the trip. La Casa Que Canta sits above La Ropa Beach in Zihuatanejo, twenty-five oceanfront suites built from adobe and palapa wood, home to the only Clarins spa in Mexico. Adults-only, intimate and quietly decorated by hand, it suits couples wanting a private bay view, not families or a lively pool scene.

Built with adobe bricks, palapas and tropical woods, the hotel's multi-level design has become a recognized icon of the Pacific coast, honored for a second year with a Michelin Guide Key. Its terraced, arch-framed suites once served as the backdrop for the film 'When a Man Loves a Woman', cementing its reputation as one of Mexico's most storied romantic retreats.
