Hotel de Rougemont
Rougemont is one of the prettiest villages in the Swiss Pays-d'Enhaut, a few minutes from Gstaad, and Hotel de Rougemont sits at its edge, rebuilt from an older hotel into a 33-room chalet with wood-grain walls that call back to the region's traditional timber construction. Ski-in, ski-out access puts Gstaad's slopes at the door, but the hotel doesn't lean only on winter: an indoor pool, sauna, steam room and massage rooms keep the spa running through every season, and an archery range on site is not something most alpine hotels bother with. Rooms come as chalets or suites, some large enough to sleep eight adults, with bathrobes, minibars and soundproofing as standard. Restaurant Le Roc serves local and international dishes, and there's a library and playroom for the quieter hours between activities. Staff move between English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Turkish without missing a beat, useful in a village where English isn't the default. This suits a traveller who wants the scenery and the spa without a five-hundred-room lobby to cross to get to either, someone who'll use the fitness room in the morning and the sauna at night rather than treat both as decoration. It won't suit anyone chasing après-ski crowds or a large-scale conference; the meeting space here tops out at four rooms and 70 square meters, built for something smaller and more deliberate. Pets are welcome, which says something about the pace the place is set to. Check-in is 3pm, checkout 11am, and neither feels enforced. A 33-room chalet at Rougemont's edge, rebuilt from an older hotel, with ski-in ski-out access to Gstaad and a spa running indoor pool, sauna and steam room. It suits those choosing scenery over crowds; pets are welcome, and meeting space stays small, four rooms at most.
