THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Volando Urai Spring Spa and Resort
Seventeen kilometers outside New Taipei City, the road narrows and the traffic drops away, and that is the point of arriving at Volando Urai Spring Spa and Resort. This is a small resort, twenty-two rooms spread over seven floors, and it runs adults-only, with children under eight turned away at the door rather than tolerated. What fills the day instead of sightseeing is water and heat: a sauna, a steam room, a spa tub, a massage room, even a doctor on call if the soak goes too far. Rooms lean toward river or mountain views, come with bathrobes and slippers as standard, though guests should know that Taiwan's 2025 rules on disposable toiletries mean bringing your own toothbrush is now sensible rather than optional. Staff move between Chinese, English and Japanese, and a transfer service, including airport pickup, spares you the need to drive the mountain road yourself. There is a business center and conference hall on site, but nobody comes here for a meeting. The one thing that sets this place apart from its spa-hotel peers is the gala dinner folded into every rate, mandatory rather than optional, which turns dinner into a fixed ritual rather than a choice. That will suit travelers happy to be told when and how to eat; it will not suit anyone who wants to skip the set menu or bring a child along. Breakfast is a buffet, with packed lunches and diet menus available on request, and pets are not permitted anywhere on the property. Book it for the water, accept the dinner, and leave the itinerary at home. The pull is the water and the mandatory ritual: sauna, steam room, spa tub and a gala dinner baked into every stay at this adults-only, twenty-two-room resort outside New Taipei City. Bring your own toothbrush, leave the kids and the schedule behind.
