THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Mandarin Oriental Taipei
Mandarin Oriental Taipei rises seventeen floors above Dunhua North Road, a tree-lined boulevard three kilometres from the city centre and within reach of the Nanjing East Road MRT, Taipei 101 and the National Palace Museum. With 303 rooms across a hotel built for both business and leisure stays, it holds something few Taipei properties bother with: an indoor pool alongside an outdoor one, plus a sauna, steam room and spa tub for guests who want water therapy regardless of weather. A woman travelling alone for work will find a business centre, conference hall and fax facilities without needing to leave the building, while the concierge desk, 24-hour reception and private check-in keep arrivals unhurried. Rooms carry a mini-bar, bathtub, slippers and toiletries as standard, and staff speak Chinese, English, French and Japanese, useful if her itinerary spans more than one language. The chapel on site marks this out as a hotel built for occasions as much as transit. Families travelling with children will find babysitting and childcare, though the Not Allowed line on pets means anyone travelling with an animal should look elsewhere. Extra beds run 2,541 TWD a night, and a same-day deposit of 4,000 TWD is required by bank transfer on arrival, a detail worth planning around rather than discovering at the desk. Check-in is from 3pm, check-out at noon. This is a hotel for someone who wants a base with depth, not a room to sleep in between meetings, and the pairing of pools, spa and business floors under one roof is the rare combination that holds up on a second look. A 17-floor hotel on Dunhua North Road, three kilometres from central Taipei, with both an indoor and outdoor pool, a spa and a business centre under one roof. Good for a stay with depth, less so for anyone travelling with a pet.
