Capella Bangkok sits seven kilometres from the city center, near Wat Arun, Talat Phlu and Asiatique the River Front. Every room type on offer, from the Standard Double to the King Villa, is sold with a river view, and even the smallest categories run 657 square feet, enough space for the pillowtop beds, down comforters and Egyptian cotton sheets to actually register. Book a King Villa and the room grows to 2,788 square feet, more than four times the size of the entry rooms. The hotel belongs to Capella Hotels & Resorts, built as a design property across ten floors and 101 rooms, with tablet controls in each one, a spa that runs to its own sauna and steam room, and a 24-hour fitness center. What the other riverside hotels here don't have is Côte, the restaurant run by chef Mauro Colagreco, and that's the detail that turns a stay into a reason to eat without leaving the property. Families get a playroom and babysitting for a surcharge; guests travelling with a dog pay a flat 3,000 THB per stay. It's also EarthCheck Certified. None of this suits someone who wants to walk everywhere; the center is a taxi ride away and the location favours quiet over convenience. It suits someone who wants a base by the water rather than in the middle of downtown Bangkok. Worth knowing before booking: a 10,000 THB daily deposit is held against damage, and an extra bed runs 3,531 THB a night. What lingers afterward isn't the pool or the spa, both solid but not unusual, it's dinner at Côte. Capella Bangkok's 101 rooms all come with river views, from 657-square-foot doubles to 2,788-square-foot villas. Its edge over other riverside hotels is Côte, the restaurant run by chef Mauro Colagreco. It suits a quiet base over the water, not someone who wants to walk into downtown Bangkok.
