THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Banyan Tree Samui
Every one of Banyan Tree Samui's 88 villas sits on a single floor, tucked into a private hill above Lamai Bay where jungle drops straight into the Gulf of Thailand. Built in 2009, the resort sits seven kilometres from central Koh Samui, though Lamai Beach and its night market are an easy walk. Each Family, Horizon, or Deluxe villa comes with its own pool, a dining area, and a balcony opening onto garden or sea, so meals happen without ever leaving the room. Beyond the villa gate: a private beach, an outdoor pool, a gym, a yoga deck, and water sport ranging from diving to windsurfing to fill days that don't involve the spa. The spa is the reason people who've done a dozen resort spas still book Banyan Tree Spa Samui: ten pavilions built around The Rainforest, a hydrotherapy circuit few island resorts can match, ending in a tailored massage rather than a generic one. Couples and honeymooners will find the seclusion does what it promises; families get a kids' club and family villas that run past 1,800 square feet. Anyone wanting bars and street life outside the front door should stay in town; this is a hotel for people who've already decided they want to be left alone. Extras carry a cost: an extra bed runs 7,500 THB a night, a damage deposit of 3,000 THB a day is taken at check-in, and an additional breakfast costs 1,300 THB. None of that changes the fact that this is one of the few Koh Samui addresses carrying MICHELIN's Two Key distinction for 2025, earned without raising its voice about it. Eighty-eight single-floor pool villas sit on a private hill above Lamai Bay, each with its own pool. The draw is Banyan Tree Spa Samui's Rainforest hydrotherapy circuit, unmatched on the island. Suits couples wanting seclusion, not those wanting town life at the door.

THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT

In 2020, five green turtle nests containing around 600 eggs were discovered on the resort's private beach. Working with Thailand's Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, the property monitored the nests until 269 hatchlings safely returned to the sea, an episode still recounted on its sustainability page today.
