THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Six Senses Samui
Six Senses Samui sits eleven kilometres from Koh Samui's town centre, with Wat Plai Laem and Bangrak Beach as neighbours rather than a strip of bars at the gate. The resort opened in 2019 with just 66 rooms, all of them villas, several with their own pool, so there is no lobby crush and no lift to wait for: the property has no elevators, because it does not need them. Rooms sit low across the grounds, each villa opening onto its own terrace. The largest, an oceanfront villa, runs past 3,000 square feet, with a bathtub and mosquito netting among its fittings. A private beach and an outdoor pool, open eight in the morning to six at night, sit below the villas, and the spa keeps a full steam room and sauna alongside massage, bookable in advance. What separates it from the island's other name-brand resorts is the doctor kept on staff, not a first-aid kit behind the desk, real medical cover for a stay that might include diving, snorkelling or the yoga deck. Families get a playroom and babysitting, though children under six are not allowed into the spa without an adult, and anyone travelling with a pet should look elsewhere, none are permitted here. Staff speak English, German, Japanese and Chinese, and airport transfers run 900 baht each way, arranged directly. This suits a couple or small family who would rather have villa privacy than hotel buzz. It will not suit anyone wanting nightlife within walking distance or a view from every window; here the view is garden, not skyline. Six Senses Samui's 66 rooms are villas, some with their own pool, alongside a private beach and an on-site doctor few resorts here offer. Built in 2019, low-rise and elevator-free, it suits villa-privacy seekers over guests wanting nightlife on foot.

Many of Six Senses Samui's villas use a split-level design, tucked into the hillside above Choeng Mon Beach. The bedroom sits on the upper level with sweeping views over the Gulf of Thailand, while a private sundeck below holds loungers and an alfresco dining table, keeping the surrounding tropical landscape in constant view.
