THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Bab Al Shams Desert Resort & Spa
Forty-five minutes from both Dubai and Abu Dhabi airports, the skyline gives way to dunes and this two-floor, 113-room resort, built in 2005, sits among them under the Rare Finds banner. What sets it apart from other desert properties nearby is the resident wildlife: gazelles, birds and geckos share the grounds as part of the resort's own ecosystem, an authentic desert backdrop few competitors can match. Two infinity pools face the dunes, useful for anyone who wants an empty horizon rather than a crowded pool deck, and the Satori Spa offers private and couples' treatment rooms for those planning a stay around one long, unhurried session rather than a list of sights. Archery and billiards fill quieter afternoons. Families who book the villa get a private pool and 2,013 square feet to spread across; couples who want less space can take one of the standard rooms, most around 398 to 506 square feet, all with private bathrooms. Breakfast and a restaurant are included, and a wheelchair-accessible elevator reaches every floor. This is not the base for anyone wanting Dubai Miracle Garden or Ski Dubai within walking distance; those sit a drive away, and the trade is deliberate, quiet over convenience. It also is not for anyone who wants a high-rise view or nightlife within reach. What guests get instead is a resort built low enough that the desert stays visible from every room, and by evening, when the pool lights come up and the heat drops, the gazelles move close enough to watch back. Bab Al Shams sits in the Dubai desert, forty-five minutes from the airports, with resident gazelles, twin infinity pools and the Satori Spa. Villas come with private pools; standard rooms run modest and simple. It suits guests craving quiet over city convenience, not those wanting nightlife on the doorstep.
