THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Wythe Hotel
Wythe Hotel occupies a factory building on the Williamsburg waterfront that has stood since 1901, its brick shell now holding sixty-nine rooms with sixteen-foot timber ceilings, concrete floors warmed by radiant heat, and arched windows restored rather than replaced. Beds are built from reclaimed factory timber, and a resident curator keeps rotating work by local Brooklyn artists through the guest rooms, a commitment to the neighbourhood's creative community that most hotels drop once the opening party ends. Standard King rooms run 250 to 260 square feet, and a few add private terraces; the Standard King Room with Terrace and its single-room counterpart are worth requesting if a skyline glimpse matters more than square footage. A walk from the hotel covers Brooklyn Bowl, Brooklyn Brewery and East River State Park, and downstairs, the restaurant Le Crocodile earned a three-star review from the New York Times, rare for a hotel dining room and reason enough to book a table even without a room upstairs. Bar Blondeau pairs Manhattan's skyline with spirits from across the five boroughs and state. Concierge, dry cleaning, room service and an elevator cover the practical ground, and check-in runs from 3pm, checkout at 11am. What it will not offer is quiet: the Main Hall and Garden Terrace host weddings and parties for up to two hundred guests, and there is a nightclub on site, so anyone chasing quiet should look elsewhere, as should those who want to be in Manhattan proper rather than three kilometres from it. For the traveller who wants a working piece of Brooklyn's industrial and artistic history rather than a reproduction of one, this is about as authentic as the neighbourhood offers. A 1901 factory turned sixty-nine-room hotel in Williamsburg, with reclaimed-timber rooms, a rotating local art collection, and a restaurant that earned a three-star New York Times review. Better suited to those who want Brooklyn's creative pulse than Manhattan's center or a quiet night in.

Your taste already has an address

Since opening in 2012, Wythe Hotel has commissioned and displayed work from Brooklyn artists including Duke Riley and Tom Fruin, whose scavenged-tin 'Hotel' sign marks the exterior. Guest rooms and public spaces rotate pieces from a growing roster, now guided by curator Alessandra Gómez, tying the hotel to Williamsburg's creative community.
