THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
The Beekman, A Thompson Hotel by Hyatt
Walk in from Fulton Street and the first thing that registers is scale: a nine-story atrium under a pyramidal skylight, in a building old enough to have opinions about the neighborhood before Lower Manhattan became what it is now. The Beekman, a Thompson Hotel by Hyatt, keeps that architecture as its argument rather than its decoration, with Martin Brudnizki's interiors and a restaurant built around Tom Colicchio's cooking doing the rest of the talking. Ten floors, 287 rooms, and the kind of room categories that actually vary, from a 280-square-foot Superior King to a 904-square-foot Deluxe Corner Suite, so the choice between compact and expansive is real rather than cosmetic. Rooms carry bathrobes, minibars, blackout blinds and soundproofing, useful in a city that doesn't quiet down on its own schedule. Downstairs there's a gym, a business center and conference space for anyone mixing meetings into the trip, a playroom for those traveling with kids, and a Green Key Global eco-rating for guests who track that sort of thing. Pets are allowed, staff speak nine languages between them, and a doctor and massage service are on call if the trip goes sideways. This suits someone who wants a landmark building without a museum-piece atmosphere, and who'd rather book a specific room size than gamble on "deluxe." It won't suit anyone chasing a quiet residential pocket of the city, since it sits three kilometers from center among hospitals and department stores rather than brownstones. The atrium is the thing no competitor nearby can replicate, and it's worth seeing even before the room key comes out. The Beekman pairs a landmark nine-story atrium with rooms sized honestly, from 280 to 904 square feet, in Lower Manhattan. Pet-friendly, multilingual, Green Key certified, with Tom Colicchio's cooking downstairs.

Guest rooms and public spaces throughout the property reflect the sophisticated design work of Martin Brudnizki, known for layering historic character with contemporary comfort. The result gives the hotel's interiors a distinct sense of place, setting the rooms apart from typical big-brand Manhattan hotel design.
