THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
SSAW Boutique Hotel Shanghai Yilin
Arrive at SSAW Boutique Hotel Shanghai Yilin and the first thing within reach of the lobby is not a gift shop but a library, an unusual addition for a 66-room boutique hotel seven kilometres from central Shanghai. The location sits close to Guilin Road Metro Station, eight hundred metres away, with Zikawei Library, Xujiahuiyuan Scenic Area and Shanghai Gymnasium forming a loose ring around the property, and Taikang Road and Jing An Temple close enough for an afternoon detour. Rooms range from the compact Standard King to the considerably larger Executive King, each kept simple: air conditioning, slippers, a desk, room service on request. Check-in opens at 2pm, check-out closes at 12:30, and a 200 CNY deposit is collected per room per stay, standard practice rather than a red flag. Guests who want a concierge who knows the metro timetable by heart, a 24-hour desk, and a quiet bar at the end of the day will find all of it here. Those travelling with heavy luggage or limited mobility should know the elevator is currently out of service, a detail worth a call ahead rather than a surprise at arrival. Business travellers passing through for a night or two, and couples who'd rather read in a lobby than scroll through a hotel app, will get more out of this address than anyone chasing skyline views, since the hotel's restraint is the point, not an apology. Note too that geographic data in China is deliberately shifted for security reasons, so the pin on the map is a guide, not gospel. What stays consistent is the library, the kind of detail most boutique hotels promise and few actually keep. A boutique base near Guilin Road Metro with an actual library instead of a gift shop, suited to travellers who read more than they sightsee. Mind the elevator, currently out of service, and the shifted map pin, standard in China. Not for anyone needing ground-floor ease or single-call directions.
