THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
BnA WALL Tokyo
In the lobby at BnA WALL Tokyo, a six-metre mural is still wet, repainted week by week by whichever artist is in residence, and through the space guests can watch the next one take shape in the basement factory below. Each of the hotel's 26 rooms was built the same way: floor, walls, ceiling, furniture, and curtains designed from nothing alongside a single artist, which is why no two rooms share a mood, from a meditative float-tank space to a sushi-conveyor fever dream. That makes this a strange fit for anyone wanting a predictable night's sleep, but it works for travellers who'd rather stay inside someone's unfinished idea than a template, and for those curious enough to read the artist's note left in each room before they settle in. The hotel sits in Nihonbashi, close enough to walk to the Edo-Tokyo Museum and the Tokyo Imperial Palace, and near Kodemmachō. Practical needs are covered without fuss: 24-hour front desk, concierge, luggage storage, a restaurant on site, free WiFi throughout, and an elevator for guests who need step-free access. Check-in opens at 3pm, check-out is 10am, and late arrivals should flag ahead since the desk needs notice after midnight. What sets it apart from Tokyo's other design hotels is the patron system: part of what guests pay goes directly to the artist who built their room, so staying there is also a small act of commissioning new work. Families travelling with toddlers pay nothing extra for children two and under sharing existing bedding. This isn't a place to switch off in. It's a place to notice what's around you, which for some guests is exactly the point and for others is reason enough to book elsewhere. \n\nA Nihonbashi hotel where all 26 rooms are artist-built installations, down to the floor and curtains, with a mural factory visible from the lobby. It suits travellers curious about art more than those wanting a plain, predictable stay.

On the ground floor, the hotel runs its own restaurant alongside a cafe, bar and lounge that double as exhibition space, so guests can eat and drink within view of the murals and installations that define the rest of the building.
