THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Hotel hisoca ikebukuro
A dry sauna with its own bucket for pouring water, tucked into a room on the upper floors of a seven-storey building in Nishi-Ikebukuro, is not something most thirty-two-room city hotels bother with. Hotel hisoca ikebukuro does. Several of its rooms carry a private wet mist sauna and a large bathtub, and a few go further with that dry, self-serve steam setup, described room by room on the hotel's own pages rather than offered as one shared spa. The building itself also keeps a sauna and steam room at property level, reached by lift for anyone on the higher floors. Elsewhere the rooms are straightforward: air conditioning and heating, a coffee or tea maker, a microwave, slippers, a wake-up call, and in some rooms a balcony or terrace. The front desk runs around the clock with express check-in and check-out, luggage storage, self-parking, and a small gift shop and boutiques near reception. WiFi is free and fast throughout. Check-in opens at 3pm, check-out closes at 11am. Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden and Meiji Jingu Shrine sit within a reasonable walk for those who like to explore on foot, with Ikebukuro Station and Tobu Department Store closer still. A city tax of JPY 100 to 200 per person per night is collected on site, children's breakfast is JPY 1,500, and international guests need a passport ready at check-in. This suits a traveller who wants her own hot water at the end of a long day in Tokyo and doesn't need a lobby to perform for her. Anyone chasing sprawling grounds or a resort-sized pool should book elsewhere; this is a compact hotel built around one good soak. A compact Ikebukuro hotel where several rooms hide their own wet or dry sauna, something few thirty-two-room properties offer. Free WiFi, round-the-clock front desk, and a short walk to Shinjuku Gyoen and Meiji Jingu Shrine. Built for a quiet soak, not a show.
