THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Rosewood San Miguel de Allende
San Miguel de Allende can veer into two extremes. Either hyper charming and impossibly romantic, or slightly overwhelmed by its own popularity. Rosewood manages to sit above that tension, quite literally. Set just outside the very centre, it feels like its own grand hacienda, with courtyards, fountains and terracotta hues that mirror the city’s colonial architecture without feeling theatrical. The scale is generous. High ceilings, carved wood details, stone archways and expansive suites with fireplaces and private terraces. It is polished, but not stiff. You can come here for a long weekend with friends and feel celebratory, or come as a couple and lean into the romance of the setting. The rooftop, with its direct views of the Parroquia, is one of the most coveted sunset spots in town for a reason. What Rosewood does particularly well here is balance. You are close enough to wander into town for galleries, churches and long lunches, but removed enough to retreat into quiet when you need it. The pool courtyard is a calm counterpoint to the cobblestone bustle outside the gates. Service is attentive in that effortless way that makes things feel smooth rather than orchestrated. This is not a tiny boutique hideaway. It is grand, layered and confident, which suits San Miguel’s theatrical beauty. If you want intimacy above all else, there are smaller options in town. But if you want space, views and that feeling of being in a beautifully executed version of Mexico’s architectural heritage, it delivers. This is for you if you want classic luxury with a strong sense of place and easy access to town. Skip if you prefer minimalist design, ultra contemporary interiors or a truly under the radar stay.
