THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Villa Bossa
Off the Amalfi Drive, an automated gate opens onto what was once a WWII bunker, now the covered parking for Villa Bossa and, after dark, the setting for an evening pasta class where a local artist teaches guests to make three kinds of handmade pasta over local wine. That bunker also holds his atelier, a small gallery of original art, next to a villa of just six rooms on the Ravello coastline, a 20-minute walk from Amalfi's center and close to the quieter village of Atrani. The six rooms sit across two floors with no elevator, so anyone who struggles with stairs or heavy suitcases should look elsewhere. Only the suites, from the Junior Suite up to the 807-square-foot Suite, get a private terrace or balcony facing the sea; the smaller Deluxe Room has neither, and suits guests who want a bed near the coast rather than a view to sit with. Castiglione beach is a short walk away, with a free public stretch and the paid Lido di Ravello for those who want a sunbed and a waiter. Covered parking is useful given the coast road's switchbacks, though it runs 50 euros a night. This isn't a hotel for large groups or families wanting connecting rooms; with only six rooms, it stays intimate by nature, suiting couples and small parties who come here as much for the pasta class as for the sea. Condé Nast Traveler called it a world of hotel that's difficult to find along the Amalfi Coast, and the pasta class is the reason that line sticks. Six rooms on the Ravello coast, a short walk from Amalfi, built around a WWII bunker that doubles as parking and an artist's atelier for hands-on pasta classes. Sea-view suites get private terraces; the plain Deluxe Room does not, and there's no elevator.
