THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Ariana Sustainable Luxury Lodge
Ariana Sustainable Luxury Lodge holds just eleven rooms on a single floor cut into the rock at Uchisar, 850 meters from Uçhisar Castle. Built in 2015 and named to Condé Nast Traveler's Hot List that year, it belongs to Small Luxury Hotels of the World and carries the Türkiye Sustainable Tourism Program certification, a credential most Cappadocia cave hotels do not hold. Suites are named for ancient goddesses, Nanshe, Inara, Arinnitti, and come with air conditioning, fireplace, minibar, coffee machine and a private bathroom stocked with free toiletries; the Standard King Suite with Jacuzzi runs 592 square feet and adds its own sauna. Mornings bring an a la carte breakfast and complimentary afternoon tea, evenings the Plum Restaurant's Contemporary Mediterranean menu, made from farm-fresh ingredients and served against the lodge's own vineyard and gardens. Staff arrange hot air balloon rides, horseback riding, moonlight hikes, a Salt Lake excursion to Tuz Gölü, and a private airport transfer, though the shuttle carries an EUR 85 per-vehicle fee. There is a gym, a spa, a library, a picnic area, and a playroom for children, plus a conference hall for anyone mixing business with the trip. Pets are not permitted. This suits a couple or small family wanting a compact, self-run base rather than a large hotel with corridors to cross; anyone traveling with a bigger group will find eleven rooms limiting, and anyone chasing nightlife will need to look past Uchisar's quiet lanes. What Ariana has that its Cappadocia neighbors mostly do not is that sustainability certification paired with SLH membership, on a property small enough that the same staff greet you at breakfast and again at the door when you leave. Eleven cave suites on one floor above Uçhisar Castle, run by a small team who know your schedule. It carries a sustainability certification rare among Cappadocia's cave hotels, plus farm-to-table dinners in its own vineyard; skip it if you need a big group booking.

Each of Ariana Lodge's suites is named after a Mesopotamian, Hittite or Babylonian goddess, from Ishtar and Nanshe to Arinnitti and Siduri, with the myth behind each name shared with guests. Carved into cave and stone, the individually themed rooms give every stay a distinct narrative rooted in the region's ancient deities.
