THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Boutique Hotel Château Royal
Walk the corridors of Château Royal in Berlin Mitte and every room holds a different artist's work, over a hundred paintings, sculptures, and installations scattered through the bar, restaurant, stairwells, and all 93 rooms and suites, an idea called #93rooms93artists that no comparable address in the city has fully committed to. The building itself has layers: raised in 1880 for a banker and a brandy distiller, it later housed an East Berlin tourism agency and, by some accounts, the Stasi, before its current owners rebuilt it around art and hospitality. The location does the rest of the work: Neustädtische Kirchstrasse sits within walking distance of the Brandenburg Gate, between the government district and Museum Island, close enough to Unter den Linden and Friedrichstrasse to reach on foot, and near two of the city's dining hotspots with close ties to the hotel, Grill Royal and Einstein Unter den Linden. Rooms move from the compact Small Single Room up to the Standard Quadruple Family Room, sized differently across five categories, no two decorated alike, each with a private bathroom and toiletries; the Standard Double Suite adds a safe, telephone, and towels as standard. The restaurant serves Mediterranean-leaning modern cuisine seven days a week, with a courtyard for warm-weather lunches and a bar built around small-batch spirits. A conference hall and meeting rooms suit business stays, and pets travel for a 45-euro fee. Guests should know a card guarantee and a 100-euro deposit are required at check-in. This suits someone who wants Mitte's history and art woven into where she sleeps, not someone after a quiet, unbranded room to disappear into. The art is the reason to remember the address. Ninety-three rooms, each hung with a different artist's work, wrapped around a Berlin Mitte building that, by some accounts, once housed the Stasi, a short walk from the Brandenburg Gate. Come for the art and the courtyard restaurant, not hushed anonymity, and bring a card for the check-in deposit.

THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT

Your taste already has an address

The corner building at Neustaedtische Kirchstrasse 3 dates to 1880 and has passed through the hands of a brandy distiller, a banker and art collector, and, during the GDR era, the East Berlin tourism agency before its transformation into today's boutique hotel. Its façade survived the Second World War largely intact.
