THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
SO/ Berlin Das Stue
Das Stue occupies a neoclassical building in Berlin's embassy quarter that once housed the Royal Danish Legation, set between the Tiergarten and the zoo, with an exclusive terrace entrance straight into the zoo grounds for guests willing to pay the fee. A garden and terrace open onto that same greenery, the outlook the hotel credits with making guests want to linger. Inside, 78 rooms across five floors range from a compact Standard King Room with air conditioning, a safe and a private bathroom to a larger Standard King Suite with a desk, iron, mirror and full toiletries, all fitted with bathrobes, slippers and minibars regardless of category. The design carries the Design Hotels stamp rather than a generic luxury template: contemporary interiors built into a historic shell, a French restaurant called Carte Blanche, and a spa offering massage, sauna, steam room and a doctor on hand. There's an indoor heated pool for laps before breakfast, and a library and picnic area for guests who'd rather read outside than sit in a bar. Kitchens accommodate vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free requests without fuss. Staff work across nine languages, from Arabic to Turkish, and the property holds Green Key certification, wheelchair access throughout, and a welcome for pets for a stated fee. This suits travelers who want a boutique base with a specific point of view and don't mind paying for the zoo shortcut; it won't suit anyone chasing anonymity or a hotel indistinguishable from its neighbors. Check-in runs from 3pm, checkout by noon, standard hours for a building with an unusual former life. Das Stue occupies a former Danish legation between the zoo and the Tiergarten, with an exclusive terrace entrance into the zoo grounds. Inside: 78 rooms, an indoor heated pool, a French restaurant and a spa built around massage and steam. It suits travelers wanting atmosphere, not anonymity.

Das Stue's in-house wellness space, THE SPA, is called out among the hotel's signature extras for its holistic beauty care. Set within the same elegantly renovated embassy building, it gives guests a quiet counterpoint to the artistic, design-driven public spaces elsewhere in the hotel, with treatments focused on relaxation and restoration.
