THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Riva Konstanz
Riva Konstanz sits on Seestraße in the city's Petershausen district, overlooking Lake Constance, though drivers won't reach the front door from that street: the hotel's car park is entered via Kamorstraße instead, a small routing quirk that says a lot about a building oriented toward the water rather than the road. The heated rooftop pool is the one thing this hotel has that its Konstanz peers don't, backed by a sauna, steam room, massage room and an on-call doctor for anyone who wants more than a swim. The 76 rooms are built for quiet, with soundproofing, blackout blinds and air conditioning as standard, and the Ophelia restaurant, open evenings Thursday through Monday, is worth booking ahead for rather than turning up hopeful. Beyond the spa wing, the property runs a casino and a library on site, along with mini golf and bike rental for guests restless after a day in the conference hall or business center. Staff speak English, German and French, breakfast comes buffet-style with a diet menu on request, and pets travel for 50 EUR a stay. This suits people who want a serious spa and a kitchen with a reservation book, not sightseers hoping to fall out of bed into the old town, since the hotel sits a kilometre from the Archaeological Museum of Baden-Württemberg and the Rheintorturm. The heated rooftop pool remains the one feature Konstanz's other hotels can't match. Riva Konstanz sits on Lake Constance in Petershausen, its heated rooftop pool a rarity among the city's hotels. The 76 rooms are quiet and soundproofed, the spa runs to a steam room and an on-call doctor, and the Ophelia restaurant is worth booking ahead.
