THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Park-Hotel Egerner Hofe
On the edge of the hotel's own park at Lake Tegernsee, meadows run out toward the Wallberg, and guests in the two-bedroom Alm Suite step straight onto a private terrace and garden, roughly 100 square metres built from Alpine wood and Walsertal granite. Park-Hotel Egerner Höfe holds 85 rooms and belongs to Relais & Chateaux rather than a conventional hotel chain, and the difference shows: three restaurants ranging from the regional Kaminrestaurant mit Stubn to the gourmet Dichter, a Mangfall Spa with its own House of Beauty, an indoor pool, sauna, steam room and cryotherapy chamber, and a Nespresso machine standard in every room. Skiers use the on-site ski storage, hikers and cyclists head out on rented bikes, golfers reach a course nearby, and children have a playroom and playground while parents book a massage or the solarium. None of this suits a traveller after a central address or an anonymous international lobby; the doorman and concierge know returning guests, and the multilingual staff (English, French, German, Italian, Spanish) work a house that calls itself Quiet Luxury and largely lives up to it. There is a conference hall and meeting rooms for the business trip that has to happen, but the RockBar and the library make clear this is not where deals get made. Pets stay for a fee, extra beds cost 95 euros a night, and parking runs 25 euros a day, details worth knowing before booking. What Egerner Höfe has that its Tegernsee neighbours mostly do not is that Relais & Chateaux membership, an independent house rather than a branded stay, and that is reason enough on its own. Park-Hotel Egerner Höfe sits in its own park at Lake Tegernsee, a Relais & Chateaux house with three restaurants and a Mangfall Spa, not a franchise. It suits spa regulars, skiers and families, less so anyone wanting a central address or an anonymous chain lobby.
