THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
The Hiramatsu Hotels & Resorts Ginoza
The dining room fills with light before 7:30am, and guests who bother to wake for the sunrise get a smoothie made from whatever is in season and a view of the Yambaru forest sliding into the Pacific. The Hiramatsu Hotels & Resorts Ginoza has nineteen rooms, five of them private villas, on a stretch of Okinawa's east coast where the water reads more turquoise than any brochure claim would suggest. What sets it apart from the island's larger beach resorts is its kitchen: the French restaurant has held Three Toques from Gault & Millau for four straight years and the hotel itself earned a MICHELIN Key in 2025, credentials rarer at a property this size than at almost any other address on the island. Rooms carry bathrobes, minibars, and private bathrooms with soaking tubs, and higher categories add balconies and sea views. There's a seasonal outdoor pool open April through October, a spa called Kukuru that requires advance booking, and enough water close by for diving or snorkelling if the pool feels too tame. A lounge bar pours rare aged awamori and whiskies past sunset. None of this suits anyone chasing a large, lively resort with constant activity on tap; at nineteen rooms, this simply isn't that scale of property. It suits someone who wants dinner to be the main event and mornings spent watching light change over water, with sport and spa treatments as the rest of the day's structure. Booking a treatment or table ahead is not optional here, and that, more than the view, tells you what kind of stay this is. Nineteen rooms, five of them villas, a French restaurant with Three Toques from Gault & Millau and a 2025 MICHELIN Key, and mornings watching sunrise over the Yambaru forest and Pacific. Booking ahead for dinner and spa treatments is essential here; quiet and scale, not crowds, are the point.
