THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Jusandi
At the northern tip of Ishigaki Island, five white villas sit on a forested bluff above the sea, and each has its own pool built at a size Japan's crowded coastline rarely allows. Jusandi keeps to a single story and only five rooms total, so the pace here is set by the villa, not by a lobby or a bar full of other guests, and the property is adults only, so anyone travelling with children should book elsewhere. Mornings can start with breakfast floating in the pool as the sun clears the tree line, or in the dining room, where the kitchen alternates a Ryukyu-style spread with a Western one and the chef, who trained in two-star kitchens in France, builds dinner around Ishigaki beef, island pork and reef fish. A three-minute walk reaches the beach in front of the Blue Cave, and diving and snorkelling are among the activities offered on site, alongside a spa with massage, sauna and a private tent sauna that guests tend to keep quiet about. The Michelin Guide named Jusandi a two-key hotel in 2024 and again in 2025. Rooms range from an ocean-view double at 646 square feet to a 1,076-square-foot villa with its own pool, bathrobe, minibar and safe. What it will not give a guest is variety: one restaurant, one pool per villa, one stretch of coastline. Anyone wanting a change of scene mid-stay, or a hotel with more than five doors, is better off elsewhere on Ishigaki. For everyone else, the quiet is the point. Five single-story villas on a forested Ishigaki bluff, each with an outsized pool, earned Jusandi Michelin Two Keys in 2024 and 2025. Breakfast floats in the pool at sunrise, three minutes from the beach at Blue Cave. Adults only, built for one long stay, not a change of scene.

The resort's five all-suite villas were designed by architect Norihiko Dan, known for blending white-walled buildings into coastal landscapes, and sit atop a cliff at Ishigaki's northern tip overlooking the sea. Each single-story villa holds its own private pool, among the largest of its kind at a resort in Japan, framed by subtropical forest.
On-site parking is available for guests arriving by car.
The dining room serves an Italian dinner menu built from Ishigaki and Okinawan ingredients.
