THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
The Ritz-Carlton, Osaka
A doorman in a silk top hat opens the door at The Ritz-Carlton, Osaka, and the lobby beyond owes more to an eighteenth-century British aristocratic residence than to the Umeda towers outside, a hush that has held since the hotel opened in 1997 as Japan's first Ritz-Carlton. The 291 rooms across 37 floors range from a 463-square-foot Superior with blackout blinds and a mini bar to an 818-square-foot Executive King Suite, and the hotel's own collection of roughly 450 artworks turns the corridors into something closer to a private gallery, with a guided tour offered nightly at six. In 2026 the hotel held its Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star award for a fourth consecutive year, the only property in Osaka to hold it. There is an indoor pool, a sauna, a steam room and a spa built around massage and body treatments, plus a fitness center for anyone unwilling to skip a routine on the road. French cooking at La Baie is one of four restaurants on site, and room service runs around the clock. Staff work across seven languages, from Japanese and Korean to Italian and German, and there is a chapel for weddings and playrooms that will keep children occupied longer than planned. A 24-hour business center serves meetings, and Nishi-Umeda, the Osaka National Museum of Art and the Osaka Science Museum sit within a kilometer for anyone who steps outside. This suits someone who wants a fixed point of excellence in a city built on constant motion, less so anyone chasing whatever opened last month. What lingers after checkout is the quiet, precise and unhurried, exactly as designed a quarter-century ago. Japan's first Ritz-Carlton opened in Umeda in 1997 and has held Forbes Travel Guide's Five-Star award for four consecutive years, the only hotel in Osaka to do so. Its 291 rooms, indoor pool and roughly 450-piece art collection suit a stay built around precision rather than novelty.
