THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
The Peninsula Tokyo
The Peninsula Tokyo stands opposite the Imperial Palace and Hibiya Park in the Marunouchi business district, with Hibiya subway station at its door and Ginza a short walk beyond. That address suits someone who wants a full day of meetings in the financial district followed by an evening that does not require a taxi: five restaurants, a bar, and the hotel's renowned Afternoon Tea are all under one roof. Of the 314 rooms, 47 are suites with their own seating areas and dining tables, and every room comes with a marble bathroom, double basins, and a dressing room built for someone who actually unpacks. What separates it from the other luxury addresses in Marunouchi and Ginza is a set of amenities you would not expect to find behind a business hotel's marble lobby: a library, a billiards room, mini golf, and a bowling alley, sitting alongside the more familiar gym, indoor pool, sauna, steam room, and spa. The hotel is EarthCheck certified for sustainability, and runs on multilingual staff and round-the-clock room service, which matters if you are arriving off a long flight and do not want to explain yourself twice. Pets are allowed, the building is wheelchair accessible, and there is a garden that quietly breaks up the surrounding office towers. None of this suits someone chasing a sea view or a bargain rate; the register is formal, the pleasure in details rather than drama. For a traveller who wants Ginza on foot, a desk that works, and dinner sorted before check-in, it earns its place. It is the bowling alley next to the spa that people mention when they get home, not the marble. Opposite the Imperial Palace, minutes from Ginza, The Peninsula Tokyo pairs 314 rooms with marble bathrooms and dressing rooms against a lobby that also hides a bowling alley, a library, and mini golf. Business travellers get five restaurants and Afternoon Tea; beach seekers should look elsewhere.

THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT

Your taste already has an address

Rising 70 metres from the 8th to the 23rd floor, the hotel's atrium receives no natural light and stages 24 sculptures made of metal mesh and fibre optics, arranged as though floating in a dark ocean. Small unmarked windows near the lift lobbies on each floor offer guests an unexpected glimpse of this hidden installation while waiting for the elevator.
