THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Xinalani Retreat
Getting to Xinalani starts with a boat, not a taxi: from Puerto Vallarta the transfer crosses the bay by sea, past Quimixto Beach, before guests step onto a private stretch of sand that no road reaches. That crossing alone filters out anyone chasing convenience over quiet, and it is what separates this thirty-three room retreat from the resorts lining the marina strip: there is no parking lot here, no crowd of day-trippers, because the only way in is water. Inside, low buildings without elevators, since there are no floors to climb, hold rooms named for their ocean view rather than their finish, from the Deluxe King with its own balcony onto the sea to the Luxury King Suite with a private pool of its own. Days settle into a rhythm of tide and yoga schedule: a morning session, a walk to the library or the picnic area, a hike into the jungle or a snorkel off the private beach, then a sauna, steam room or massage before dinner in the restaurant, where the kitchen will build a diet-specific menu on request. It suits a couple or a solo traveller happy to hand the logistics to a staff that speaks English and Spanish, arranges the transfer for 115 US dollars one way, and checks guests in privately at four in the afternoon. It does not suit anyone travelling with children, since the retreat is adults only, or anyone who wants a car nearby, since there is none on site. What lingers after checkout is not the spa list but the boat ride home, watching the retreat shrink back into the jungle it never really left. Reachable only by boat, Xinalani swaps roads for a private stretch of Pacific coast and thirty-three low-rise ocean-view rooms. It suits couples and solo travellers happy to hand logistics to a bilingual staff, not families, since the retreat is adults only.

THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT

Your taste already has an address

No roads lead to Xinalani; guests arrive along a coastal stretch by a roughly thirty-minute boat ride to reach the 250-yard private beach where the jungle meets the Pacific. The boat-only access keeps crowds away, leaving an emerald-water bay for swimming, paddleboarding and quiet mornings by the shore.
