The Venice Venice Hotel
Palazzo Ca' da Mosto, one of the oldest palaces on the Grand Canal, faces the Rialto Bridge, and for two centuries it ran as the Leon Bianco, a hotel that hosted sovereigns, tsars, and the aristocrats of the Grand Tour before falling into decades of neglect. It reopened four years ago as The Venice Venice Hotel, and this year Condé Nast Traveler named it to its Gold List. Through November 22, 2026, it is also staging a piece of the Biennale itself: Il Gesto, JR's reworking of Veronese's The Wedding at Cana, shown across the Second Piano Nobile alongside a monumental tapestry by weaver Giovanni Bonotto, open to visitors by reservation, something no other hotel in the city can offer this year. None of the 43 rooms repeat a formula; each is composed as its own gallery of Venetian material and contemporary art, so a Standard King two floors from a suite can read like a different hotel entirely. Evenings settle into Francy's, under Byzantine arches and amber light, while daytime runs through Venice M'Art's pizza and cicchetti, and a rooftop altana above the palazzo opens for private dinners with the Dolomites visible on clear days. There is a spa with sauna and steam room, a small gym, a conference hall for anyone folding in business, and dogs travel for a nightly fee. Extra beds run €200 a night, so this is not the place for families trying to economize by doubling up. It suits a traveller who wants Venice's history reactivated through contemporary art rather than replayed in brocade, someone glad to book a viewing slot instead of a gondola queue. It will frustrate anyone chasing hushed, traditional grandeur. Palazzo Ca' da Mosto reopened four years ago as The Venice Venice Hotel and just made Condé Nast Traveler's Gold List. Through November 22, 2026 it hosts JR's Biennale installation Il Gesto, something no other Venice hotel can claim, across 43 rooms that each read like their own gallery.
