THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa
Arrive by boat, not on foot: JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa occupies Isola delle Rose, its own island in the Venetian lagoon, and getting there means a transfer rather than a stroll from San Marco. That distance is the point. Built in 2014, the four-floor resort holds 250 rooms across grounds no palazzo hotel in the historic centre could match: gardens, a rooftop pool, an indoor pool, a seasonal outdoor pool, and two-bedroom villas that come with private pools of their own. The spa covers sauna, steam room, solarium, and massage, and four restaurants and four bars, two of them poolside, mean dinner doesn't hinge on a water taxi back into the city. Staff speak seven languages, including Turkish and Russian, a sign of how far this draws from the usual San Marco crowd. Families get a kids' club, a children's pool, and babysitting on request; a business centre and fourteen meeting rooms handle work groups without anyone leaving the island; a dog travels for a nightly fee. None of this suits anyone who wants a historic palazzo three hundred metres from Piazza San Marco or a window over the Grand Canal; getting anywhere from this resort starts with a boat. What it offers instead is what almost nothing else in Venice can: actual space, actual gardens, a resort built as a resort rather than a historic building converted into one. That trade, city on one side of the water and grounds on the other, is the whole proposition. JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa sits on its own island in the lagoon, reachable only by boat, with rooftop and indoor pools and villas that have private pools of their own. It suits travellers who want space and gardens over a Grand Canal window.

The resort occupies Isola delle Rose, a private island in the Venetian lagoon reached by boat, placing guests roughly 650 feet from neighbouring Sacca Sessola and a short crossing from Dorsoduro and the historic centre. The secluded island setting separates the grounds from the bustle of central Venice while keeping the city within reach by transfer.
