THE PINK NOTEBOOK VERDICT
Ca Maria Adele Hotel
At the mouth of Venice's Grand Canal, in the quieter, art-filled streets of Dorsoduro, Ca Maria Adele occupies a former palazzo that opened as a twelve-room hotel in 2004, and no two of those rooms agree on a mood. One is done in ruby red baroque, another in chic Mediterranean white, a third in dark colonial wood; the Doge's Room leans into Venice's noble and religious past, while Suite 336 hides a jacuzzi tub at the foot of the bed. A secret terrace, lit low and dressed like a Middle Eastern riad, sits apart from the breakfast room's chandeliers and flock wallpaper, where guests eat fresh fruit, homemade bread and local cheese most mornings. This is an adults-only address, no children under sixteen, which makes sense once you've seen the ponyskin sofas and the pepper-and-leather scented living room built for a slow cocktail rather than a family holiday. Couples and honeymooners who want a room with a story to tell will find one here; anyone hunting minimalism or a hotel that fades into the background should look elsewhere. Location does real work too: it's one stop from Piazza San Marco, close enough to walk to the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, the Ponte dell'Accademia and Teatro La Fenice. Staff speak English, Spanish, Italian, German and French, there's a spa, a massage room and a doctor on call, and pets are welcome, though there's no parking, this is Venice after all. What no other twelve-room hotel nearby offers is this degree of theatrical variety, room to room, without ever feeling like a theme park. Ca Maria Adele picks a mood and commits to it fully. Ca Maria Adele fills a Venetian palazzo at the mouth of the Grand Canal with twelve rooms that share nothing but ambition, from ruby-red baroque to a riad-style secret terrace. Adults-only and one stop from Piazza San Marco, it suits couples who want personality over predictability.
